University of East London

With the next generation of students becoming savvier and more demanding about their need to work in a flexible and creative ways. The University of East London approached us to transform and redefine their Knowledge Dock space on their East London campus to meet the needs of the next generation of students. The new K-D brand concept needed to encapsulate flexibility with a special focus on defining areas for collaboration, focusing, sharing and learning.

We wanted to bring the students and users out of the office spaces and into a Tech sector inspired open space that would stimulate ideas, co-working and co-learning. As the space was spread across two different floors, one of our biggest challenges was developing a K-D brand that would connect these together. To solve this we defined a simple graphic style, with a bold yet bright colour palette, which not only acts as super graphic but also guides users around the space. Like a ribbon the graphics wraps up from the ground floor, via the stairwell and onto the second floor. The main entrance was treated with intersecting layers of colourful vinyl and a bright neon sign inside the space acts as focal points in the campuses overall environmental graphics program. Along with having a bold and bright colour palette, multiple overlapping graphic shapes assisted in building a visual language that represents the wide settings of co-working, collaboration, creativity, focus and flexibility that the next generation of students so desperately need.
